In a surprising and exciting move, quarterback Kai Horton has committed to transferring to the University of Washington, as reported by On3sports on Tuesday. Horton, a redshirt senior, will bring his experience from Tulane, where he spent four seasons as a backup quarterback.
During his time with the Green Wave, Horton played in 13 games, completing 64 of 123 passes for 853 yards, along with six touchdowns and five interceptions. While he may not have been a regular starter, Horton’s experience in college football and his skills as a former three-star recruit make him a strong addition to Washington’s roster.
Horton, a native of Carthage, Texas, was highly regarded as the 27th-best pro-style quarterback in the nation coming out of high school. He led his high school team to back-to-back 4A state titles in his junior and senior years, showcasing his leadership and talent early on.
As Washington prepares for the 2025 season, the presumptive starter at quarterback is Demond Williams Jr., who had an impressive freshman campaign, including a standout performance in Washington’s 35-34 loss to Louisville in the Sun Bowl. Williams threw for 374 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 48 yards and a touchdown. However, with little experience behind Williams, Horton’s addition will provide valuable depth to the position.

In addition to Horton, Washington also has Shea Kuykendall, a fourth-year junior who transferred from Northern Colorado but hasn’t played yet for the Huskies. The team will also welcome true freshmen Dash Beierly and Treston “Kini” McMillan, both of whom enrolled at Washington earlier this month.
Horton’s arrival signals a boost to the quarterback depth chart as Washington gears up for the upcoming season, ensuring the team has more options and experience as they look to build on a promising 2024 campaign.
