BREAKING: Rangers Key Man Confirm His Departure from The Team

Urho Vaakanainen, a former Boston Bruins defenseman, has been added to Finland’s roster for the upcoming NHL 4 Nations Face-Off. The 26-year-old, who currently plays for the New York Rangers, was included in the team as an injury replacement. Vaakanainen steps in for Dallas Stars’ Miro Heiskanen and Toronto Maple Leafs’ Jani Hakanpaa, both of whom are sidelined with injuries. Buffalo Sabres defenseman Henri Jokiharju is also filling an injury-related spot on the Finnish team.

This season, Vaakanainen has contributed six assists in 26 games, playing for both the Anaheim Ducks and the Rangers. He was part of a trade earlier this season that sent Rangers captain Jacob Trouba to Anaheim. Vaakanainen’s strong performance in his limited games has earned him a spot on the Finnish roster for the international competition, despite his relatively modest numbers.

Vaakanainen was originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with the Bruins during the 2018-19 season and played four seasons in Boston. Over 31 games with the Bruins, Vaakanainen recorded six assists, blocked 34 shots, and delivered 21 hits, showcasing his defensive abilities.

This year marks a new chapter in Vaakanainen’s career as he continues to build his experience with the Rangers after being traded from the Ducks. His journey in the NHL, from his debut with the Bruins to his current role with New York, reflects his development as a solid two-way defenseman, gaining valuable experience in a league filled with top-tier talent.

The 4 Nations Face-Off will begin on February 12, with Team Canada facing off against Team Sweden to open the tournament. Team USA will play against Team Finland the following day, on February 13. The tournament provides an excellent platform for players like Vaakanainen to showcase their skills on the international stage.
