Another experienced player is set to rejoin the Yankees on a one-year, $2.85 million deal, which includes a club option for 2026, as reported by MLB. com’s Mark Feinsand on Tuesday. While the team has yet to confirm the agreement, it is expected that Hill will earn $2.5 million in 2025. The club option is valued at $3 million, with a $350,000 buyout, according to Feinsand.
Hill was a vital part of the Yankees’ bullpen during the 2024 season, including their playoff push. After being released by the White Sox, the Yankees signed the 34-year-old left-hander in June. Hill made 35 relief appearances for New York, posting a 2.05 ERA over 44 innings.
He also performed well in the postseason, recording a 1.08 ERA in 10 appearances. In the World Series against the Dodgers, Hill made three scoreless appearances and allowed just one earned run in 8 1/3 innings.
Known for his low submarine arm slot, the lowest for any left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball, Hill is an effective ground-ball pitcher. His 68% ground-ball rate in 2024 was the highest among the 194 MLB pitchers who allowed more than 200 batted balls.
Over the course of seven major league seasons, Hill has accumulated a 3.99 ERA and 239 strikeouts in 322 1/3 innings.
