The New York Yankees announced today that they have re-signed left-handed pitcher Tim Hill to a Major League contract for the 2025 season, with a club option for the 2026 season.
Hill, 34, made 62 total relief appearances in 2024 with the Chicago White Sox and Yankees, posting a 4-0 record and a 3.36 ERA (67.0IP, 77H, 32R/25ER, 19BB, 31K, 2HR). His 69.5% groundball rate ranked second among all Major League relievers (second in the American League), while his 0.27 home runs per 9.0IP ranked third among left-handed relievers (second in the AL). Hill also set a career high with 67.0 innings pitched, which ranked ninth in MLB and fourth in the AL.

Hill started the 2024 season with the White Sox, going 1-0 with a 5.87 ERA in 27 relief appearances (23.0IP, 41H, 19R/15ER, 10BB, 13K, 0HR). After being released by the White Sox on June 18, he was quickly signed by the Yankees on June 20. Hill went on to make 35 appearances for New York, finishing with a 3-0 record and a 2.05 ERA (44.0IP, 36H, 13R/10ER, 9BB, 18K, 2HR). He recorded four or more outs in 15 of his 35 outings with the Yankees, a notable increase compared to just four such appearances in 27 games with Chicago.
From June 20 to the end of the season, Hill ranked second among left-handed relievers (minimum 30 innings pitched) in innings pitched (44.0, first in the AL), fourth in ERA (2.05, third in the AL), and eighth in opponents’ slugging percentage (.281, fifth in the AL). Additionally, he was ninth in opponents’ OPS (.549, fifth in the AL) and tenth in both opponents’ on-base percentage (.267, seventh in the AL) and WHIP (1.02, eighth in the AL).
Over the course of seven Major League seasons, Hill has pitched for the Kansas City Royals (2018-19), San Diego Padres (2020-23), Chicago White Sox (2024), and New York Yankees (2024). He has a career record of 20-14 with four saves and a 3.99 ERA (322.1IP, 326H, 176R/143ER, 103BB, 239K, 30HR) over 382 relief appearances. Since 2018, Hill’s 28.9% inherited runners scored percentage ranks seventh among all Major League relievers, and his 382 relief appearances are the fifth-most by left-handed relievers during that span. He has also made 60 or more appearances in three seasons, including 70 games in 2018 with Kansas City, 78 games in 2021 with San Diego, and 62 games in 2024 with both Chicago and New York.
Hill has appeared in the postseason three times in his career (2020 and 2022 with San Diego, 2024 with the Yankees), posting a 1-0 record with a 0.68 ERA (13.1IP, 9H, 3R/1ER, 3BB, 8K, 0HR) in 16 relief appearances. In 2024, Hill made 10 postseason appearances with the Yankees, recording a 1.08 ERA (8.1IP, 7H, 2R/1ER, 2BB, 3K, 0HR).
Hill, a native of Mission Hills, Calif., was originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 32nd round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Bacone College (Okla.). He was traded to San Diego on July 16, 2020, and later signed a Major League contract with the White Sox on December 28, 2023.
