REPORT: Boston Bruins Announce Departure of Two Experience Players

The Boston Bruins made a roster move on Sunday, as they announced the departure of two prospects, Matthew Poitras and Michael Callahan, who have been sent down to the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League (AHL). This decision comes as the team enjoys its 4 Nations Face-Off break, with most players taking a break from games before returning to practice next week.

The departure of Poitras and Callahan is not surprising, as both players do not need to clear waivers to be sent down. Poitras, a highly regarded forward, had previously been sent to Providence in November under former head coach Jim Montgomery. Since returning to Boston, Poitras has appeared in 26 games, recording one goal and 10 assists, including key assists on David Pastrnak’s goals. His time in Providence will give him valuable playing experience as he continues to develop.

Callahan, a defenseman, has shown promise during his eight games with the Bruins, the first of his NHL career. He has displayed solid defensive skills, blocking nine shots in his short stint with the team. The young defenseman will now head to Providence to continue refining his game and gain more ice time.

While the move might come as a temporary setback, both Poitras and Callahan will have the opportunity to stay sharp and return to the Bruins’ roster as the team prepares for the final stretch of the season. Depending on how the Bruins’ playoff push unfolds, both players could earn another opportunity in Boston, with Poitras especially looking to make a case for a full-time spot next season.

For now, Poitras and Callahan will continue their development in Providence, where they will have the chance to showcase their skills and keep progressing in their careers.
