BOSTON — The Bruins had a chance to build some momentum heading into the 4 Nations Face-Off, but they let it slip away.
The Vegas Golden Knights fought back from two separate two-goal deficits to secure a 4-3 victory at TD Garden on Saturday. The Bruins were in control at various points, including during a high-energy third period, but ultimately lost a game they were expected to win.
This result felt all too familiar for the B’s this season.
Boston started strong, with Zadorov and Brad Marchand combining for a beautiful goal just minutes into the first period. Zadorov added a goal of his own shortly after, taking advantage of chaos in front of the net that left Vegas goalie Ilya Samsonov sprawled on the ice with no chance of stopping the puck. However, Samsonov made a critical mistake midway through the second period, mishandling the puck and allowing Morgan Geekie to score an easy goal.
The takeaway is the key point or lesson that can be learned from a situation, event, or experience. It’s what stands out as the most important or impactful message. For example, after watching a game or reading an article, the takeaway is often the main insight or conclusion that you should remember.
The Golden Knights then found their rhythm offensively, closing the gap to one goal just before the second intermission, and tying the game early in the third period. Zadorov appeared to have put the Bruins back on top with what looked like his second goal of the game, but it was called back after the referees ruled that Marchand had interfered with Samsonov. Moments later, Pavel Zacha committed a slash on Pavel Dorofeyev, giving Vegas a power-play opportunity with just three minutes left in regulation.
Does a team ever win after that?
Apparently, no. Dorofeyev seemed to score the go-ahead goal at 18:19, but after a referee discussion and a replay review, it was ruled that Mark Stone had interfered with Jeremy Swayman.
Tomas Hertl, however, had no regard for a fairytale ending for the home team, as he scored with just over a minute left in regulation.
Tough loss.
