On March 27, 2024, Jedd Fisch held a press conference at Husky Stadium to introduce his new coordinators to the media. Sitting at a table with the iconic stadium in the background, Fisch was joined by Brennan Carroll on his right and Steve Belichick on his left.
When asked how he compared to his father, former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Brennan noted they shared certain philosophies, such as the belief that everyone should feel comfortable being themselves. “I am,” Brennan joked, “my mother’s son.” However, Brennan’s time in Seattle was brief. Fisch announced on Monday that Brennan would be leaving to take the role of offensive line coach and run game coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders.
This move reunites Brennan with his father, Pete, who was hired by the Raiders on January 25. Brennan previously worked with Pete at the Seahawks from 2015 to 2020 and at USC from 2002 to 2009.
Fisch also shared that quarterbacks coach Jimmie Dougherty would step in as UW’s new offensive coordinator, while Michael Switzer, who was recently promoted to assistant offensive line coach, would take over as the team’s new offensive line coach. This promotion brings UW’s coaching staff back to 11 members with off-campus recruiting privileges, while Fisch will continue his role as the team’s offensive playcaller. “I’m super excited for Brennan and for Pete in their next endeavor over at the Raiders,” Fisch said.
Brennan’s departure is the second coordinator loss and the third assistant to leave the program since UW’s 35-34 loss to Louisville in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31. Defensive coordinator Steve Belichick joined his father Bill Belichick at North Carolina, and safeties coach Vinnie Sunseri moved to Florida to take a similar role.
However, Brennan’s decision to leave was more surprising given his long history working with Fisch. The two first worked together at Miami in 2011, where Fisch was the offensive coordinator and Brennan coached tight ends. After Fisch left Miami following the 2012 season, they reunited in 2021 when Fisch became head coach at Arizona. Brennan helped build one of the top offensive lines in the Pac-12 during their time together at Arizona.
Before joining Washington in 2024, Brennan’s offensive line helped Arizona’s center Josh McCauley earn All-Pac-12 honors. Two years later, his offensive line featured first-team All-Pac-12 tackle Jordan Morgan, a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and All-Pac-12 tackle Jonah Savaiinaea, who is projected to be an early pick in the 2025 draft.
Brennan’s move to Washington in 2024 came with high expectations but also challenges. UW lost all five starters from the 2023 offensive line that helped win the Joe Moore Award, recognizing the nation’s best line. As a result, Brennan’s group struggled, with the Huskies ranking 12th in the Big Ten in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, and sacks allowed.
Despite the challenges, Fisch expressed excitement for Brennan’s new opportunity. “It’s certainly a great opportunity for the Carroll family to coach together,” Fisch said. “We’re super happy for them and know that the Raiders will be filled with energy, passion, and enthusiasm.”
