BREAKING: Yankees Infield ‘One Injury Away From Devastation,’ Warns Analyst

As spring training kicks off, the New York Yankees’ infield situation is drawing concern. Following the departure of long-time second baseman Gleyber Torres, who signed with the Detroit Tigers in December, the Yankees have yet to make a move to replace him. Despite offseason rumors linking the team to various potential infield additions, including Ha-Seong Kim, Brandon Lowe, and Whit Merrifield, the Yankees have remained quiet on the acquisition front.

According to Alexander Wilson, founder of Empire Sports Media, this oversight could prove costly. In a recent analysis, Wilson warned that the Yankees are “one injury away from devastation” in the infield. The team is now relying on Jazz Chisholm Jr., who was acquired in a midseason trade with the Miami Marlins last year, to fill the second base spot. However, Chisholm, who was initially brought in to play third base, has a history of injuries and has only played more than 100 games twice in his five-year career. His durability will be a key factor in whether the Yankees’ infield can stay competitive.

With Chisholm slated to return to second base, the Yankees now face uncertainty at third, with DJ LeMahieu, Oswald Peraza, and Oswaldo Cabrera all competing for playing time. If injuries occur at either position, the Yankees may find themselves scrambling for solutions, leaving their infield depth in question.

Wilson cautioned that while the Yankees are hoping for Chisholm to replicate his healthy 2024 campaign, the team’s infield situation could quickly become a major issue if key players miss time. As the season approaches, the Yankees’ lack of a clear solution at second base could turn into a significant challenge for their roster.
