Huskies Hire Former NFL Veteran QB As New Coach To Revitalize Quarterbacks

The University of Washington’s football program has just added a new coach to its ranks, one whose unique blend of playing experience and coaching pedigree could make a significant impact on the team’s future. This new addition is no stranger to the spotlight, having spent time both as a player in the NFL and as a rising star in the coaching world. While his name may not immediately ring bells to the casual fan, this hire is poised to elevate the Huskies’ quarterback room.

Washington’s head coach, Jedd Fisch, has long been known for his connections in the football world, and it seems that his network continues to serve the Huskies well. Fisch has made a strategic move by bringing in someone with firsthand experience of both playing and coaching at high levels of football. But it wasn’t just Fisch’s reputation that attracted this new coach—it was their shared history in the NFL, where they first crossed paths years ago.

Enter J.P. Losman, the newest addition to the Huskies’ coaching staff. Losman, a former NFL quarterback, will be stepping into the role of assistant quarterbacks coach. His hiring is a direct result of his established relationship with Fisch, with whom he worked together during Losman’s brief stint with the Seattle Seahawks in 2010. The two formed a strong bond, and now that connection has brought Losman to Washington to help shape the next generation of quarterbacks.

Losman brings a wealth of experience to the table. Over the course of his career, he played for several NFL teams, including the Buffalo Bills, where he was a first-round pick in 2004, as well as the Oakland Raiders, Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, and the Las Vegas Locomotives in the UFL.

His playing career may have ended in 2011, but it didn’t take long for him to transition to coaching. He worked with Dabo Swinney at Clemson from 2017 to 2021, before following Brent Venables to Oklahoma, where he contributed to the Sooners’ staff.

With his mix of professional playing experience and a growing coaching resume, Losman’s arrival at Washington is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the quarterback position. The Huskies now have a coach who understands both the physical and mental demands of the position, ready to guide their quarterbacks toward success in the coming seasons.
