The University of Washington is making waves in the college football world with a major coaching hire that promises to add fresh energy to their quarterback room. The exciting new addition to the staff comes in the form of a former NFL quarterback, whose extensive experience both on the field and on the sidelines could make all the difference for the Huskies.
In a surprising turn, the Huskies have tapped into a unique connection from the past to bring in a coach who knows what it takes to excel at the highest level. Enter J.P. Losman, the former Buffalo Bills first-round pick and veteran quarterback, who will take on the role of assistant quarterbacks coach.
Losman’s journey to Washington is far from a traditional coaching hire. His connection to Huskies’ head coach Jedd Fisch goes back to 2010, when the two crossed paths in Seattle. Fisch was Losman’s quarterbacks coach during his lone season with the Seattle Seahawks. The chemistry and mutual respect between the two have now culminated in this exciting coaching partnership.

Losman, who played for multiple NFL teams — including the Bills, Dolphins, Raiders, and Seahawks — has since transitioned to coaching, serving on Dabo Swinney’s staff at Clemson from 2017 to 2021. His path then led him to Oklahoma, where he joined Brent Venables’ staff after Venables became head coach of the Sooners.
Now, after years of playing and coaching experience, Losman is bringing his wealth of knowledge to Washington, where he will work to elevate the performance of the Huskies’ quarterbacks. With his history in both the NFL and college football, Losman’s appointment could prove to be a game-changer for Washington’s offense in the coming seasons.
