Mizzou’s Quarterback Battle: Experienced Key Transfer Set to Lead in 2025

As the University of Missouri prepares for the 2025 football season, the question of who will take the first snap when the Tigers face Central Arkansas on August 30 is front and center for fans and coaches. While Mizzou’s coaching staff insists there is no predetermined starter, it’s widely anticipated that Penn State transfer Beau Pribula will earn the starting role.

Pribula enters the competition, which also includes Drew Pyne and Sam Horn, as the favorite, with many expecting him to lead the Tigers in what promises to be a crucial year for the program. Despite the official stance of an open competition, Pribula’s experience and skill set make him a likely candidate for the job.

This quarterback race has drawn attention to Mizzou’s history of transfer quarterbacks. The Tigers have seen few transfer QBs make a significant impact, with notable names including Terry McMillan, John Stollenwerck, Kent Kiefer, Kelly Bryant, and Drew Pyne. McMillan, who led the Tigers to a Big Eight title in 1969, is considered the most successful transfer QB in program history. Bryant, who transferred from Clemson in 2019, showed promise but struggled with injuries during his season at Mizzou.

Drew Pyne, who transferred to Mizzou from Notre Dame in 2024, became a fan favorite for his crucial performance in a comeback victory over Oklahoma.

As the competition heats up, Pribula has the opportunity to solidify his place among Mizzou’s most impactful transfer quarterbacks. Fans and analysts alike are watching closely as the Tigers prepare for the 2025 season.
