BLUCKBUSTER-DEAL: Joe Sacco Confirms Bruins’ No. 1 Trade to Solve Goaltending Worries

In a move that promises to resolve the Boston Bruins’ goaltending concerns, Bruins coach Joe Sacco has confirmed the team has secured a trade for St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington. On the latest episode of Joe Sacco’s Grapevine Podcast, Sacco enthusiastically endorsed the deal, stating that Binnington is the perfect fit for the Bruins, based on his stellar past performances in Boston.

Binnington, who played a pivotal role in Canada’s 3–2 victory over the United States in the 4 Nations Face-Off final, has long been known for his big-game performances. Sacco pointed to Binnington’s standout Game 7 performance in the 2019 Stanley Cup, where he stopped 32 of 33 shots, as a key reason the Bruins should acquire the championship-winning goalie.

“I’ve seen him in action, and he plays well in Boston,” Sacco said. “This is the guy the Bruins need right now.”

With a six-year, $36 million contract and a $6 million cap hit through 2027, Binnington was previously under a modified no-trade clause, but trade rumors had been swirling. After a series of impressive performances, particularly in the 4 Nations, speculation grew that St. Louis might be looking to capitalize on Binnington’s rising value. According to TSN insider Darren Dreger, some NHL executives believed the Blues would move Binnington, and that sentiment has now become reality.

Binnington’s .907 save percentage and 2.37 goals-against average in the 4 Nations further solidified his reputation as a clutch performer. Now, with the trade finalized, Binnington is set to join the Bruins as their new No. 1 goalie, providing a much-needed boost to their postseason hopes.

This deal puts to rest any lingering worries the Bruins had about their goaltending situation, giving them a proven winner between the pipes as they head into the final stretch of the season.
