In a move that promises to resolve the Boston Bruins’ goaltending concerns, Bruins coach Joe Sacco has confirmed the team has secured a trade for St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington. On the latest episode of Joe Sacco’s Grapevine Podcast, Sacco enthusiastically endorsed the deal, stating that Binnington is the perfect fit for the Bruins, based on his stellar past performances in Boston.
Binnington, who played a pivotal role in Canada’s 3–2 victory over the United States in the 4 Nations Face-Off final, has long been known for his big-game performances. Sacco pointed to Binnington’s standout Game 7 performance in the 2019 Stanley Cup, where he stopped 32 of 33 shots, as a key reason the Bruins should acquire the championship-winning goalie.
“I’ve seen him in action, and he plays well in Boston,” Sacco said. “This is the guy the Bruins need right now.”
With a six-year, $36 million contract and a $6 million cap hit through 2027, Binnington was previously under a modified no-trade clause, but trade rumors had been swirling. After a series of impressive performances, particularly in the 4 Nations, speculation grew that St. Louis might be looking to capitalize on Binnington’s rising value.
