ESPN: New York Giants Makes Unexpected Move By Landing Another Top Experienced Player

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz Confirms that the New York Giants will ultimately sign Russell Wilson, who started 12 games — including playoff appearances — for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024.

Wilson missed the first six games of the season due to a calf injury, but Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin reinserted him as the starter in Week 7 once he had recovered.

According to Schatz, Wilson, who threw for 2,482 passing yards in 11 starts, is still capable of performing at a solid level. He would provide the Giants with a reliable foundation to build upon while they address other areas of need.

Schatz believes that Giants head coach Brian Daboll, known for his offensive acumen, would be able to maximize Wilson’s potential despite his aging skills.

In addition to his 2,482 passing yards, Wilson threw 16 touchdowns and just five interceptions, completing 63.7% of his passes. While he led the Steelers to a 6-1 start, the team struggled down the stretch, losing five consecutive games, including a Wild Card loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Like Aaron Rodgers, Wilson would serve as a short-term solution for the Giants, with the team likely eyeing Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders as their long-term quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.
