Recruiting battles are a key part of college football, and there’s nothing quite as thrilling as securing a commitment from a highly sought-after player. For the South Carolina Gamecocks, keeping commitments from top recruits is a priority, especially when other schools like Georgia are lurking. But sometimes, even the strongest commitments face challenges, and that might be exactly what’s happening with one of South Carolina’s prized recruits.
The Gamecocks have seen significant success in recent years with their recruiting, but that doesn’t mean they’re immune to the competition. Georgia, in particular, has a reputation for swooping in on in-state prospects and flipping their commitments. However, South Carolina has held firm on its commitment from a four-star cornerback, but it appears the battle for his loyalty isn’t over yet.
The recruit in question is Peyton Dyer, a four-star cornerback from Duluth, Georgia. Dyer ranks as the No. 327 overall player in the 2026 class and the No. 27 cornerback in the nation. He committed to South Carolina in November, but a recent visit to Georgia during the Bulldogs’ Junior Day event has raised some eyebrows. While Dyer is still committed to the Gamecocks, his interest in Georgia has piqued, and that could lead to some uncertainty moving forward.

During his visit to Georgia, Dyer had a chance to meet with Coach Kirby Smart and cornerbacks coach Donte Williams. According to Dyer, the visit went extremely well, and he was impressed by the energy at Georgia and the conversations he had with the coaching staff. “I had a great time at Georgia,” Dyer said. “The coaches are great, and I look forward to getting back up there.” With such positive feedback, it’s clear that Georgia is doing everything they can to try to flip him.
Despite the strong interest from Georgia, Dyer is still committed to South Carolina, and the Gamecocks are hopeful that he will stick with his pledge. While it’s always concerning when a highly-rated recruit shows interest in other programs, Dyer’s commitment to South Carolina is still intact—for now. However, this recruitment is far from over, and if Dyer schedules another visit to Georgia, South Carolina will need to be ready to keep him on board. The next few months could prove crucial in keeping this four-star cornerback in the Gamecock fold.
