BREAKING: The Shocking Truth Behind The Vikings’ Move To Sign Two Former Colts Players

As the Vikings explored ways to strengthen their offensive line, they were determined to find any advantage they could. There were speculations that the team might aim for a high-profile acquisition like star right guard Trey Smith. However, those plans were quickly dashed when the Kansas City Chiefs decided to franchise tag him.

With that option off the table, the Vikings shifted their attention to two former Indianapolis Colts teammates. In a matter of just 12 hours, they reached agreements with center Ryan Kelly and right guard Will Fries during the early days of free agency. The familiarity between Kelly and Fries could prove valuable as they integrate into a new offensive line that includes left tackle Christian Darrisaw and right tackle Brian O’Neill. Kelly shared, “It’s a great opportunity for both of us to come in with some understanding of each other. In this position, we really depend on everyone around us to do their part.”

In his first conversation with the media after officially joining the Vikings, Kelly recalled receiving a call from Fries, who informed him that he would be joining him in Minnesota. Kelly laughed, saying, “I couldn’t believe it. That doesn’t happen in free agency. “While both had personal reasons for choosing the Vikings, their reunion was an added benefit. “We see the game almost exactly the same way,” Fries noted. “That’s a huge advantage for both of us.”

Off the field, their bond has also flourished into a close friendship. Kelly praised Fries’ growth, saying, “I could talk about him forever. He’s the glue guy. He holds the room together, always bringing out the best in everyone, which is exactly what offensive linemen need.”

Fries’ steady development into a dependable starter, after being drafted in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, was bolstered by his close relationship with Kelly.

“As a rookie, I was the only one, and he gave me the confidence to be myself and excel,” Fries said. “He’s been a huge influence on my growth, and I’m grateful for everything he’s done for me and my family. I’m pumped to keep playing with him.”
