MAJOR BREAKING: Giants Make Bold Move, Signing AFC North QB—But It’s Not Russell Wilson

When evaluating the best NFL team fits for free agents, analyst Nick Shook played matchmaker for the New York Giants, pairing free-agent quarterback Jameis Winston with the team, which is in desperate need of a quarterback. Shook had previously mentioned that the Giants were also the top option for Aaron Rodgers, though the four-time NFL MVP has yet to make a decision, leaving the quarterback market in limbo.

Shook acknowledged the Giants’ need for multiple quarterback options. “We know what the Jameis Winston Experience entails at this point in his career,” Shook remarked. Winston is known for his deep passing ability but is also prone to costly interceptions. He tends to rack up receiving yards for his wide receivers by frequently throwing the ball downfield, making him one of the better fits for New York at this stage of free agency.

Matt Harmon humorously suggested during the Giants’ win over the Colts that wide receiver Malik Nabers could benefit from a lower draft pick, potentially setting up the team to sign Winston in the offseason.

Even if the Giants select a quarterback with their third overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, they may still want a veteran presence. Former Giant Saquon Barkley seemed to agree at the Super Bowl when Winston asked him for advice on where he should sign. Barkley emphasized that New York needs a quarterback, specifically referring to the Giants’ need under center.

The Giants met with Winston on Tuesday as they await Rodgers’ decision. While Rodgers has considered the Vikings, Steelers, and the Giants, reports from Wednesday suggest that the Vikings are no longer pursuing Rodgers. Regardless of whether Rodgers joins New York, keeping options open is a smart move for the Giants’ front office.

If the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns hold their ground and select Cameron Ward and Shedeur Sanders, the Giants’ next best option might be to select the best player available. If they are determined to draft a quarterback, New York could select Colorado’s Travis Hunter with the third overall pick and trade back into the first round to draft someone like Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, who made headlines with his impressive 40-yard dash time at Alabama’s pro day.
