Free-agent outfielder Alex Verdugo has agreed to a one-year major league contract with the Atlanta Braves, according to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic.
Verdugo, 28, played for the Yankees in 2024. He posted an OPS+ of 83, marking his first season with a below-average performance over a full campaign. In 621 plate appearances, he hit .233/.291/.647, with 13 home runs and 61 RBIs. During last year’s playoff run, Verdugo started 14 games, recording a .208/.309/.313 line, one home run, and eight RBIs in 56 plate appearances.

Prior to his time with the Yankees, Verdugo played four seasons with the Red Sox and three seasons with the Dodgers.
Verdugo earned $8.7 million in 2024, but the details of his new contract with the Braves are not yet available.
Over his eight-year career, Verdugo has a .272 batting average, a .742 OPS, 70 home runs, and 316 RBIs.
The Braves will open their season on March 27 against the San Diego Padres, though it’s uncertain whether Verdugo will have enough time and at-bats to be ready for Opening Day. With Braves right fielder Ronald Acuña Jr. still rehabbing from ACL surgery and not yet playing in spring training games, Verdugo will have a good opportunity to showcase his abilities and secure a spot on the roster for the entire season.
