BREAKING: Giants’ QB Draft Plans: The NFL’s Worst-Kept Secret Revealed

The New York Giants have made two key moves at quarterback, signaling their intention to remain flexible at the position. By signing Jameis Winston as a backup for the next two seasons and bringing in Russell Wilson to provide a steady presence as a starter, general manager Joe Schoen now has the freedom to consider a variety of options in the upcoming draft.

This includes the potential selection of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders or one of the top non-quarterbacks available. Among the top prospects are Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter and Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter, both of whom could be available at No. 3. While both players have made compelling cases for the third overall pick, New York may still explore the quarterback market despite their recent moves.

For months, the Giants have been closely linked to Sanders, visiting Colorado and putting more focus on him than other quarterbacks like Cam Ward. At this point in the draft process, the Giants’ interest in Sanders is considered the “worst-kept secret” in the NFL. ESPN’s Matt Miller shed light on the team’s intentions, quoting a scout who said, “New York loving Shedeur is the worst-kept secret in the league right now.”

According to the scout, the Giants had a presence at every Colorado home game this season. While the additions of Wilson and Winston should eliminate the immediate need for a quarterback, the Giants would still consider drafting one at No. 3 if a top passer is available. If both Sanders and Ward are off the board, however, the Giants could pivot to Travis Hunter, addressing their needs at both cornerback and wide receiver.

Although the Giants have one veteran quarterback in the mix, selecting a quarterback at No. 3 seemed like a given until the recent signings. Now, with Wilson and Winston in place, the immediate need for a passer has diminished. Still, if the Giants are truly enamored with Sanders, he could remain in play.

A redshirt season for Sanders may be a possibility, which would be unusual given his “pro-ready” profile and higher perceived floor compared to Ward and other quarterback prospects. Regardless of what happens, New York’s rumored interest in Sanders will keep speculation alive leading up to the draft, leaving Schoen’s options open and fans eagerly anticipating the Giants’ next move.
