The New York Yankees still have plenty of options when it comes to shaping their roster. Although injuries have significantly impacted their starting pitching rotation, there is a possibility that the front office will seek out a talented starter to add both skill and depth to the team.
However, one MLB writer predicts that the Yankees might trade away one of their healthy starters. FanSided’s Rucker Haringey recently suggested that the Yankees could deal starting pitcher Marcus Stroman before the MLB trade deadline.
“Marcus Stroman experienced a remarkable turnaround during spring training for the Yankees,” Haringey wrote. “He began the preseason as a prime trade candidate but ended up as the No. 3 starter in manager Boone’s rotation.

” Much of Stroman’s newfound role can be attributed to injuries to other pitchers. With Gerrit Cole undergoing Tommy John surgery and Luis Gil sidelined, the Yankees were forced to adjust their rotation, opening up a spot for Stroman.
Haringey continued, “The ideal situation for general manager Brian Cashman and his team is for Stroman to pitch well enough early in the season to boost his trade value, leading to a mid-season move for a player with more upside.” He added, “If Stroman is still on the roster in October, it likely means there have been issues with the Yankees’ pitching staff.”
Stroman was considered a strong trade candidate during the offseason due to his contract, but given New York’s current lack of pitching depth, it’s unlikely the Yankees will look to move him just yet.
Even with the eventual return of Luis Gil and Clarke Schmidt from injury, Stroman will likely remain the fifth or sixth starter, depending on how Will Warren performs. The Yankees would probably only entertain a trade involving Stroman if they manage to add a high
