HUGE BOOST: Missouri Makes Bold Move: Three Key Predictions To Elevate Team’s Record

Just when it seemed like the chaos was winding down, the NCAA Basketball transfer portal reopened on Monday. With a record-breaking 500 players entering the portal on day one, that number has quickly surpassed 1,100 within 24 hours, according to verbalcommits.com. Missouri will need to be strategic in their approach as they currently only have room for four transfers. They will have to find replacements for Caleb Grill and Tamar Bates, who combined for 30 points per game this season. Fortunately for Mizzou, junior forward Mark Mitchell is likely to return for his senior year, but they will lose 7-foot center Josh Gray, who added much-needed size to the team. With several gaps to fill, here are three players who could potentially join the Tigers next season.

Jevon Porter, Junior Forward

The 6’11” forward, brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. and former NBA player Jontay Porter, grew up in Columbia, Missouri. Porter spent last season at Loyola Marymount, averaging 12.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. Before that, he played two seasons at Pepperdine, where he averaged 13.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. A former 4-star recruit with offers from Mizzou and Pepperdine, Porter could provide the size Mizzou needs. He entered the portal after a 17-15 season with Loyola Marymount.

Devin Askew, Junior Guard

Devin Askew is a 6’3″ guard who was once a highly ranked 4-star recruit, ranked 37th in the Class of 2020. After a season at Kentucky, he transferred to Texas and then moved to California, where injuries limited his playing time. This season, Askew had a breakout year at Long Beach State, averaging 18.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals, while shooting 40.1% from the field, 37.6% from three, and 88.6% from the free-throw line. With one year of eligibility remaining, Askew entered the portal and is expected to join a power conference school.

Cam’Ron Fletcher, Junior Forward

Cam’Ron Fletcher, a 6’7″ forward from St. Louis, was a highly regarded prospect coming out of high school, ranked as the No. 3 player in Missouri. He initially committed to Kentucky, where he struggled in his first season before transferring to Florida State. After spending three seasons with FSU, Fletcher transferred to Xavier, where he played sparingly and averaged 1.3 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. The 6th-year forward entered the portal after a first-round exit with Xavier. Despite his past struggles, Fletcher’s potential makes him a possible addition to Mizzou.
