The New York Giants have made a move to bolster their linebacker depth, announcing today that they’ve re-signed a free agent linebacker. After being waived by the Detroit Lions at the end of the 2024 preseason, the player quickly joined the Giants’ practice squad. He would go on to have one of the most productive seasons of his career, recording 29 tackles in 16 games, including two starts. Although most of his playing time was on special teams, he also saw more than 100 defensive snaps during the final three weeks of the season.
The player in question has spent much of his career as a special teams contributor. Drafted in the seventh round, he began his career with the Green Bay Packers before being waived in 2022. Following his time in Green Bay, he had stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints, and Detroit Lions, before finding a home with the Giants. Over his career, he has appeared in 83 games, totaling 89 tackles.

Now entering 2025, the linebacker will likely face a more competitive battle for defensive playing time. The Giants are bringing back the same inside linebacker group from the previous season, including Bobby Okereke, Micah McFadden, and Darius Muasau. On top of that, the team added veteran Chris Board to a two-year contract, making it clear that defensive snaps will be hard to come by.
While special teams has been his main role, his recent performance in defensive snaps during the latter part of the 2024 season shows that he’s capable of contributing when needed. His versatility and experience could prove valuable, especially in case of injuries or if the team needs a boost at linebacker.
As the Giants prepare for the 2025 season, this re-signing adds much-needed depth to their linebacker corps. Though his path to significant defensive playing time may be more challenging, his ability to contribute on special teams and provide depth will make him a valuable asset for the Giants moving forward.
