As part of his offseason overhaul, Washington men’s basketball coach Danny Sprinkle focused on addressing the team’s need for perimeter scoring, especially after losing nearly all of the guards from last season’s roster.
On Thursday, the Huskies reportedly secured a commitment from Quimari Peterson, the Southern Conference Player of the Year and East Tennessee State’s standout. Peterson led the league in scoring last season with 19.5 points per game, showcasing his offensive prowess. The 6-foot-1 point guard from Gary, Indiana, also contributed 4.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.0 steals, while shooting an impressive 46.8% from the field and 42.2% from beyond the arc. His efforts helped the Buccaneers finish with a 19-13 record and a 12-6 conference mark.
Peterson, ranked No. 54 nationally among transfers by On3, is expected to bring a wealth of experience to Washington’s backcourt. Over two seasons at ETSU, Peterson started all 67 games, averaging 16.4 points per game on 43.1% shooting, while amassing 250 assists and 124 steals.

Before his time at ETSU, Peterson spent a year at John A. Logan College in Cartersville, Illinois, where he averaged 13.5 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.7 rebounds. His collegiate career began at Indiana State, though he played only four games there.
With Peterson joining the roster, the Huskies’ backcourt now includes freshman Vazoumana Diallo and incoming four-star recruits JJ Mandaquit and Courtland Muldrew. Currently, the team has nine players on the roster, six short of the NCAA limit of 15. The transfer portal deadline is set for April 22.
