The Atlanta Braves are in urgent need of an outfielder after Jurickson Profar received an 80-game suspension for testing positive for PEDs, which will also cause him to miss the postseason.
While Ronald Acuña Jr. is expected to return soon, his return alone won’t be enough to keep the team competitive unless they acquire another star outfielder.
Jon Conahan of Athlon Sports recently predicted that the Braves could make a major trade with the Boston Red Sox to replace Profar by acquiring star outfielder Wilyer Abreu.

“Abreu has been one of the best players in Major League Baseball during the first eight games of the 2025 season, posting a slash line of .500/.621/.1.000 with three home runs,” Conahan wrote. “Although the Red Sox might not be eager to trade him, especially as they don’t need many prospects in return, the Braves could make an overwhelming offer due to their current outfield situation.”
Abreu has had an incredible start to the season, and as time goes on, the chances of the Red Sox trading him diminish. However, if the Braves can present an irresistible trade package, they could land him.
A deal involving top pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep, along with Bryce Elder and potentially another high-potential position player, might be enough to convince the Red Sox to part with their 25-year-old outfielder.
