SIGNIFICANT BOOST: Braves Solidify Roster with Key Acquisition: Securing a Star Outfielder to Address Suspension Fallout and Enhance Playoff Hopes

The Atlanta Braves are in urgent need of an outfielder after Jurickson Profar was handed an 80-game suspension for testing positive for PEDs, which will also keep him out of the postseason. While Ronald Acuña Jr. is set to return soon, his return alone won’t be enough to keep the Braves competitive unless they acquire another star outfielder. Jon Conahan of Athlon Sports recently predicted that the Braves might pursue a high-profile trade with the Boston Red Sox to replace Profar with star outfielder Wilyer Abreu.

“Abreu has been one of the top performers in MLB during the first eight games of the 2025 season, posting a remarkable .500/.621/1.000 slash line with three home runs,” Conahan wrote. “Though the Red Sox may not be eager to move him, especially given that they don’t urgently need prospects, the Braves might make an irresistible offer due to their current outfield situation.”

Abreu’s hot start only makes it more unlikely that the Red Sox will trade him as the season progresses. However, if the Braves can present an overwhelming trade package, they may be able to sway Boston. A trade involving top pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep, along with Bryce Elder and possibly another high-potential position player, could be enough to convince the Red Sox to part ways with their 25-year-old outfielder.
