The college football offseason can feel like a long, drawn-out wait for fans, and the Duke football community is currently in the middle of that seven-month stretch. But for Blue Devils supporters, the wait just got a little shorter. On Tuesday, Duke football’s official social media channels announced a scheduling change for the 2025 season that is sure to excite fans.
The Blue Devils’ home opener, originally set for Saturday, August 30, 2025, will now take place on Thursday, August 28, 2025. The game will feature Duke hosting the Elon Phoenix, an in-state FCS opponent. This shift means fans will get to see their team back on the field two days earlier than anticipated, shortening the offseason just a bit.
While the announcement confirmed the new date, details regarding the kickoff time and television broadcast are still to be determined. These specifics will be revealed at a later date, allowing fans to plan accordingly as they look forward to the season opener. The change in the schedule is a welcome update for those eager to see the Blue Devils back in action under second-year head coach Mike Elko.
The schedule change also has the added benefit of giving Duke fans a chance to fill Wallace Wade Stadium two days earlier and support their team as they continue to develop under Elko’s leadership. As the Blue Devils look to build on their progress from last season, the move to an earlier game adds a bit more excitement to the upcoming year.
In addition to the opener against Elon, Duke has five other home games scheduled for the 2025 season. These include matchups with Illinois (Sept. 6), NC State (Sept. 20), Georgia Tech (Oct. 18), Virginia (Nov. 15), and Wake Forest (Nov. 29). With the season opener now set for Thursday, August 28, Blue Devils fans have plenty to look forward to as they rally behind their team.
