South Carolina has made an intriguing move by adding an edge rusher from the transfer portal with a very familiar last name. Demon Clowney, the cousin of South Carolina legend and former No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Jadeveon Clowney, has joined the Gamecocks program. While Jadeveon made a name for himself terrorizing quarterbacks during his time in Columbia, Demon is looking to carve out his own legacy and close out his college career with the Gamecocks.
Demon Clowney’s journey to South Carolina has been a winding one. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound edge rusher initially signed with Ole Miss as part of the 2020 recruiting class. Over three seasons with the Rebels, he recorded 10 tackles and 3 tackles for loss. While he didn’t make a huge impact at Ole Miss, Clowney’s potential was clear, and he sought a fresh start.
In 2023, Clowney transferred to Charlotte, where he played for two seasons under head coach Biff Poggi, his former high school coach in Baltimore. There, Clowney had a stronger showing, posting 33 tackles and 4 TFLs in 2023, followed by 26 tackles and 6 TFLs in 2024. Despite his solid performance, Clowney chose to enter the transfer portal once again, seeking a new opportunity to finish his college career.

After briefly landing at Louisville, Clowney decided to return to the transfer portal and ultimately found his way to South Carolina. His decision to join the Gamecocks gives him a chance to play for a program with a rich football tradition and a strong defensive reputation. While Demon Clowney may not have the same high-profile career as his cousin Jadeveon, he’s eager to make an impact in Columbia and build on the solid foundation he established at Charlotte.
As Demon Clowney prepares for his final college season with South Carolina, he will look to improve on his past performances and contribute to the Gamecocks’ defense. With the opportunity to prove himself in a high-profile program, Clowney hopes to take his game to the next level and possibly catch the attention of NFL scouts before closing out his collegiate career.
