Ugonna Onyenso, a 7-foot center from Nigeria, has officially transferred to Kansas State after a season at Kentucky. Onyenso, who visited Kansas State on Monday, also considered offers from North Carolina, Mississippi State, and Oregon, according to sources familiar with the situation. His guardian described the Kansas State visit as the best one he’s ever had, signaling the strong connection between Onyenso and the program.
Onyenso, ranked No. 47 in the ESPN 100 among NBA draft prospects, had a promising sophomore season at Kentucky, averaging 3.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks in just 19 minutes per game. His physical presence and shot-blocking ability stood out, but it’s his potential as an offensive weapon that he’s eager to showcase moving forward.
“I want the NBA to know that I am a big who can shoot the ball,” Onyenso told ESPN last month before deciding to withdraw from the draft. “I’m not just a defensive player. It’s not just about blocking shots for me. I did what I needed to do to help the team, but I don’t think anyone has seen what I’m truly capable of.” His remarks suggest he’s ready to expand his game and prove that he can be a versatile offensive threat as well as a defensive anchor.

One of Onyenso’s key goals for the next few months is to continue improving his skills, particularly his shooting and ball-handling. “My ability to shoot, put the ball on the floor, and create for myself is something I want to demonstrate,” he said. He is focused on refining these aspects of his game to boost his draft stock and make a bigger impact on the court.
As he transitions to Kansas State, Onyenso will look to build on the foundation he developed at Kentucky. His decision to transfer to Kansas State comes at a time when the program is looking to strengthen its roster, and Onyenso’s blend of size and potential makes him a key addition for the Wildcats in the upcoming season.
