The Atlanta Braves need to act fast to stabilize their starting rotation. With Spencer Strider sidelined again and Reynaldo López out indefinitely, the team faces a critical need for reinforcements if they hope to stay competitive in the NL East. Jeremy Lockett of Athlon Sports suggests that Triston McKenzie could be a smart addition.
“Given Atlanta’s success with turnaround projects and their thin pitching depth, McKenzie could be a good fit,” Lockett explained. “This wouldn’t be about immediate results, but rather long-term potential. At $1.95 million, he’s a low-risk investment for a team that could ease him in through the bullpen or a developmental path. With injuries always a possibility, having a talented arm waiting in the wings is a smart move.”

McKenzie, still just 27, showed real promise in 2021 with a 2.96 ERA across 31 appearances. Although his performance has dipped since, a fresh start with the Braves—an organization known for revitalizing struggling pitchers—might help him rebound. While there are no guarantees, Atlanta, sitting at 9-14 and 7.5 games behind in the standings, has little to lose by taking a chance on unlocking his potential.
