The New York Giants have been on the lookout for a franchise quarterback since Eli Manning’s retirement, and both general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll understand that their job security depends on finding a quarterback who can perform well and show long-term potential.

On Sunday, the Giants appeared to find their man. They traded back into the first round to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the 25th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Afterward, Daboll made it clear who the team’s current starting quarterback is.
Following the decision to move on from the underperforming Daniel Jones and the departure of Drew Lock, the Giants made significant changes to their quarterback room. They brought in veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to help strengthen the position, with the expectation of targeting a quarterback in the draft.

Though the Giants passed on selecting a quarterback with the third overall pick—choosing Penn State’s Abdul Carter instead—they traded their picks 34 and 99 this year, along with a third-round pick next year, to move back into the first round and grab Dart at No. 25, bypassing Shedeur Sanders.
Dart has a lot of potential, and the Giants are hoping he can develop into a star. However, entering spring workouts, he won’t be the starter. While Giants fans are eager to see what Dart can do, it makes sense for veteran Russell Wilson to start OTAs as the QB1. The big question is how long he can hold onto the starting role.
