The New York Giants are still actively searching for a quarterback as they approach the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night. Initially, it was believed that their top choice at quarterback was Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.
However, reports suggest that their preference has shifted toward Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, who has been rapidly climbing up draft boards.
Giants Set to Select Dart in the Draft
During an appearance on Get Up (via Bleacher Report) on Thursday, ESPN’s Dan Graziano revealed that the Giants now prefer Dart over Sanders.
Graziano noted that there is a growing belief that head coach Brian Daboll favors Dart, and the team is likely set on drafting him:
“Much of the buzz I’ve heard recently points to a belief that Coach Daboll prefers Dart over Sanders and other non-Ward quarterbacks,” Graziano shared in an article for ESPN.com. “While it’s unlikely they’d pick him at No. 3, there’s a chance they could trade down and select him later in the round.”

Giants’ Shift in Preference Toward Dart
Though Sanders had garnered significant interest from the Giants in recent months, reports now indicate that New York’s focus has shifted to Dart. While it might be too early to select him at No. 3 overall, the Giants could potentially trade up from their second-round pick at No. 34 to secure Dart later in the first round.
Dart had a standout 2024 season at Ole Miss, leading the SEC with 4,279 passing yards and a 29-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio. With his skills and potential, he could sit behind veterans like Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to develop before stepping in as the Giants’ future quarterback.

Other Teams Eyeing Dart
The Giants may face stiff competition in their pursuit of Dart. The New Orleans Saints are reportedly also targeting him and could draft him as early as No. 9 overall, potentially derailing the Giants’ plans to trade into the second half of the first round.
The Cleveland Browns, holding the No. 33 pick in the second round, have also shown interest in Dart. This means the Giants will have to contend with other teams if they are serious about drafting him.
