The Chicago Cubs secured a hard-fought two-game sweep over the Los Angeles Dodgers with wins on both Tuesday and Wednesday. The Cubs triumphed 11-10 on Tuesday, followed by a 7-6 victory on Wednesday.
However, closer Ryan Pressly was unavailable to pitch on Wednesday due to a knee issue, as reported by Patrick Mooney of The Athletic.
“Cubs closer Ryan Pressly had his right knee drained last night, manager Craig Counsell shared, which is why Porter Hodge closed out tonight’s 7-6 win over the Dodgers at Wrigley Field.
Counsell is hopeful Pressly will be ready for Friday’s start of a three-game series against the Phillies,” Mooney noted on X, formerly Twitter.
Ryan Pressly’s Return to the Cubs’ Bullpen Could Be Soon
It looks like Pressly could return for the Cubs during their upcoming weekend series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Chicago is optimistic that the star reliever will be available soon, as the team is playing solid baseball, and having their closer back would significantly strengthen their bullpen.
The 36-year-old veteran has posted a 2.45 ERA over 11 appearances so far in 2025, recording four saves. After spending seven seasons with the Houston Astros (2018-2024) and serving as their closer from 2020 through 2023, Pressly saw reduced opportunities in 2024 when the Astros added Josh Hader to their bullpen.
He finished the 2024 season with just four saves, but this year, Pressly already has matched that total, reclaiming his role as a reliable closer.
With the Cubs playing well, Pressly will likely have numerous opportunities to earn saves throughout the remainder of the season.
The Cubs will host the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday afternoon at 2:20 PM EST for what is expected to be a competitive matchup. If all goes well, Pressly may be available to pitch during the series.
