Significant-Boost: Cubs Land Blockbuster Trade For the hard-throwing right-hander

The Chicago Cubs are in urgent need of adding a pitcher after losing Justin Steele to a season-ending injury. To make matters worse, Javier Assad has also been sidelined with an oblique strain.

One pitcher the Cubs have been linked to is Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcántara. When healthy, the right-hander is one of the best pitchers in the league. While he hasn’t been at his best this season, he’s expected to improve in the near future.

ESPN’s David Schoenfield recently suggested the Cubs might trade their top prospect, Owen Caissie, in exchange for Alcántara.

“With ace Justin Steele out, the Cubs will be looking for a replacement, and they have a strong farm system with the depth to make a trade for Alcántara,” Schoenfield wrote. “Caissie and Kevin Alcántara (no relation) are two young outfielders in Triple-A, and while there may not be room for both in the future, either could lead a trade.

Caissie’s power potential would be especially appealing to the Marlins, who have long needed a power-hitting outfielder.”

Caissie is a top-tier prospect with impressive abilities, but trading him could be necessary to land a star pitcher like Alcántara, who is under team control for several more years. It’s likely the Cubs would consider this move, given Alcántara’s proven track record.
