Huge Loss To Giants: Giants Part Ways with Versatile Defender, Bolstering Depth for Rival

Isaiah Simmons, who spent the last two seasons with the New York Giants, has signed a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers, according to multiple reports. The move comes after Simmons visited Green Bay earlier this month and hinted at a possible signing on social media.

The Giants acquired Simmons from the Arizona Cardinals in August 2023 in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick. A former top-10 pick in 2020, Simmons brought versatility to the Giants’ defense, transitioning from linebacker to safety during his time in New York.

In 2023, Simmons played about one-third of the Giants’ defensive snaps and made four starts at safety. However, his role diminished in 2024, when he started only one game and logged just 17% of defensive snaps, finishing with 21 tackles and one forced fumble.

Despite limited playing time, Simmons remained durable—he has never missed a game in his five-year NFL career. Over his 84 career games, he has compiled 329 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, nine forced fumbles, and five interceptions.

Simmons’ departure opens a roster spot for the Giants and marks the end of a brief, experimental chapter with a highly athletic defender. The team will now look to younger talent and potential draft picks to fill the gap in the secondary and linebacker corps.
