Major Breaking: Louisville Makes A Surprising Addition Of Another Star Player To The Team

Louisville has secured its first commitment for the Class of 2026 from an important in-state recruit. Max Merz, an offensive lineman from Fort Thomas Highlands, announced on Thursday afternoon that he will be joining the Cardinals.

Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 310 pounds, Merz confirmed his commitment with Cardinal Authority.

“I’ve visited Louisville numerous times, and I really appreciate the coaching staff, the excellent facilities, and the proximity to home,” Merz stated. “I’ve found the right place for me, so there’s no reason to wait when I know where I want to be.”

Louisville extended a scholarship offer to Merz during an unofficial visit in March. He has since participated in a camp at UofL, where he had the opportunity to work closely with position coach Richard Owens. Merz was also in Louisville last Saturday to watch the team’s season opener against Austin Peay.

“My visit to Louisville was great, and I enjoyed my first game there,” Merz said. “It was exciting to see them win in that fashion.”

Merz was also impressed by the Card March event.

“I’m already planning to return for the Miami game and possibly more games,” he added.

A third-team All-State selection after his sophomore year, Merz’s potential has caught the attention of Louisville’s coaching staff.

“They liked my film and see a lot of potential in me because I’m still young,” Merz told Cardinal Authority after a previous visit.

In addition to Louisville, Merz had received early scholarship offers from EKU, Kent State, Marshall, Toledo, and Troy, and attracted interest from several other programs.
