Former University of Washington and Seattle Seahawks tight end Jack Westover has been signed to the New England Patriots’ practice squad, according to the NFL’s transaction wire. Westover originally joined the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in May, but he was unable to secure a spot on the 53-man roster during training camp.
Following final roster cuts, he was waived/injured by Seattle and subsequently placed on the injured reserve list after going unclaimed by other teams. Soon after, the Seahawks and Westover reached an injury settlement, allowing him to be waived from injured reserve, making him available for signing with other teams.
Westover didn’t have to wait long to find a new opportunity, as he signed with the Patriots just weeks later. Although his stint with the Seahawks was short, he made a positive impression on his teammates. Many credited him with helping them adapt to the new playbook developed by Ryan Grubb, a former Husky and current offensive coordinator for the Seahawks.
During his college career at the University of Washington, Westover had a productive five-year run, participating in 52 games. He recorded 87 receptions for 849 yards and scored six touchdowns. Additionally, he carried the ball seven times for 26 yards, finding the end zone once as a runner.
In his final season, Westover and Grubb led the Huskies to the National Championship game, showcasing their talent and teamwork.
Now, with the Patriots, Westover has the chance to continue his football journey and is reunited with former Husky teammate Ja’Lynn Polk. This new chapter presents an exciting opportunity for Westover as he looks to make his mark in the NFL.
