On Wednesday, the Ravens bolstered their practice squad by signing two players: linebacker Kristian Welch and cornerback Anthony Kendall. This move aims to enhance their special teams capabilities as the season progresses.
Kristian Welch was recently let go by the Denver Broncos after their Week 6 defeat. Although he primarily contributed on special teams, this year marked the most significant defensive playing time of his career, with 36 defensive snaps and one start.
During his first three seasons with the Ravens, the undrafted Iowa product participated in 43 games and recorded 21 tackles, mostly on special teams. Last season, he also played in 14 games for the Green Bay Packers.
Welch’s return could be particularly valuable if linebacker Malik Harrison is unable to play this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a groin injury.
Meanwhile, cornerback Anthony Kendall fills the spot left by Damarion “Pepe” Williams, who was released from the Ravens’ practice squad earlier this week. Kendall was previously on the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad and played 16 games last season, primarily focusing on special teams.
Standing at 5-foot-10, Kendall is an undrafted talent from Baldwin Wallace University, where he distinguished himself as the Ohio Athletic Conference’s defensive back of the year and earned second-team All-American honors in 2022.
Notably, he became the first Baldwin Wallace alumnus to reach the NFL since 1987, marking a significant achievement for the program.
