As of October 23, 2024, the Ravens, who boast the top rushing attack in the league, are set to welcome back Keaton Mitchell, who is expected to open his 21-day practice window this week, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic.
This marks an official update. Mitchell’s 2023 season was cut short due to a torn ACL in his left knee, which placed him on the reserve/PUP list at the start of this year. Prior to his injury, he had made a significant impact as an undrafted rookie, averaging 8.4 yards per carry over eight games.
Throughout Ravens training camp, Mitchell remained a steady presence on the sidelines during his rehab. Recently, he took part in a workout on a separate field during practice, and now he’ll begin to increase his participation, gradually reintegrating into the team’s running back rotation.
The Ravens have created a supportive environment for Mitchell’s recovery, with Derrick Henry established as the primary back and Justice Hill handling third-down responsibilities.
This setup allows Mitchell to return without the pressure of needing a major role, enabling him to serve as a change-of-pace option as he regains his strength.
The team aims to prevent any setbacks similar to those encountered with J.K. Dobbins in 2022, who faced complications after his ACL recovery, ultimately requiring additional surgery and not regaining his speed until the following season.
If Mitchell can recapture even a fraction of his explosiveness from 2023, the Ravens’ already impressive run game—averaging 6.2 yards per attempt and 210.9 yards per game—could reach new heights.
