Isaac Sowells Jr., a male center from Louisville (Ken.), will commit to college on July 18, and he announced his final three colleges on Thursday: North Carolina State, Kentucky and South Carolina.
The Wolfpack was one of the first Power Five programs to offer Sowells Jr., making the move last summer. From there, he quickly became the primary center target. Garett Tujague, the Wolfpack’s offensive line coach, led the recruitment efforts, and the connection between the two has helped the Wolfpack emerge as a major contender for Sowells Jr.
“Ever since they offered, coach Tujague has stayed in touch,” Sowells Jr. stated in the spring. “He texts me each morning. He’s been in frequent communication since they presented the offer. It clearly demonstrates how important I am. Some schools simply offer and then stop talking to you for a while. But Coach Tujague continues to contact me and tells me why I should attend NC State.
“He like my commanding presence. I’m an excellent leader, so I’d fit right in at center. And I make everyone around me better. “Coach Tujague is a true role model.”
Although Tujague is the main man in Sowells Jr.’s recruitment, State head coach Dave Doeren has been involved since the beginning, and the Wolfpack’s leader has underlined his importance to the program throughout this recruiting cycle.
“He’s told me I’m a priority,” Sowells Jr. said in March. “I’m glad to hear that. When I visited (in January), we were able to sit down in his office for 20-30 minutes and discuss NC State and my future plans. That was awesome because hardly many guys get to meet with the head coach.
“He’s a terrific man. His statements to Steve Smith during their game against Clemson stood out to me the most. It demonstrated his unwavering support for his teammates.
Sowells Jr., who officially visited all three of his finalists in June, is a high-three-star talent, the nation’s No. 25 interior offensive lineman, and Kentucky’s fifth-ranked player, according to 247Sports.
