MAJOR BOOST: Yankees Land $260 Million For eight-time All-Star Player

The New York Yankees are looking to address their third base position, and one insider suggests they may pursue a trade for eight-time All-Star Nolan Arenado.

According to Jon Heyman of the *New York Post*, the Yankees could explore a potential trade for Arenado, who is currently with the St. Louis Cardinals. Heyman referenced a report by *The Athletic’s* Katie Woo, who revealed that the Cardinals are considering moving Arenado.

Arenado, who is entering the fifth year of his eight-year, $260 million contract, is widely regarded as one of the top defensive third basemen in the game.

The 33-year-old has been named to eight All-Star teams, won 10 Gold Gloves, and earned five Silver Sluggers. While his bat may have slipped slightly in recent seasons, he remains a solid hitter, having posted a .272 average with 16 home runs and 71 RBIs in 2024.

With the Cardinals in a rebuilding phase, MLB insider Mark Feinsand notes that there has been increasing talk about the possibility of trading Arenado. However, there are complexities, as Arenado’s hefty contract and full no-trade clause make any potential deal difficult to execute.

If the Cardinals do trade Arenado, they could open up third base for younger players like Nolan Gorman or Jordan Walker, who were developed in the system as third basemen.

Before making any moves, the Yankees are focused on retaining outfielder Juan Soto, who is a top free-agent target this offseason. GM Brian Cashman has stated that the team is committed to making a strong push to bring Soto back.

If they are unable to re-sign him, the Yankees will explore other options to improve their roster. Soto, who is expected to secure a 13-year deal worth over $700 million, had a standout 2024 season, hitting .288 with 41 home runs and 109 RBIs in 157 games. In the postseason, he further impressed with a .327 average, 4 home runs, and 9 RBIs.
