right offer. Chicago is reportedly seeking young position players in return, although obtaining the desired package may prove challenging. There will be many potential suitors for the talented outfielder. Robert hit 38 home runs and stole 20 bases in 2023, although his 2024 season was underwhelming.
One potential trade destination could be the New York Yankees, particularly if they miss out on Juan Soto. MLB Network’s Anthony Castrovince proposed a blockbuster trade that would send Robert to the Yankees.
Rather than offering multiple top prospects, Castrovince suggested a simpler deal, exchanging top prospect Jasson Dominguez for Robert. Here’s the full trade Castrovince proposed:
New York Yankees receive: OF Luis Robert Jr., LHP Jake Eder (No. 22 prospect)
Chicago White Sox receive: OF Jasson Dominguez (No. 1 prospect)
Castrovince wrote, “The Sox trade a star for ‘The Martian,’ who technically qualifies as a major league player, having played in both 2023 and 2024.” He noted that Dominguez’s stock took a hit after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2023 and having an underwhelming (and brief) 18-game stint with the Yankees in 2024.
The Yankees opting to play struggling Alex Verdugo over him in the postseason might suggest a shift in how the organization views Dominguez.
However, this trade proposal might not be feasible for either side. Chicago is looking for a comprehensive return, potentially two, three, or even four prospects for Robert, given the need for a full organizational rebuild.
A one-for-one trade for Dominguez doesn’t align with the White Sox’s goals. Furthermore, the Yankees have regarded Dominguez as untouchable, even turning down offers involving him for Soto.
Dominguez is also much more cost-effective and under team control for a longer period than Robert. Trading him for Robert would be illogical for the Yankees at this point. This trade suggestion seems highly unlikely to happen.
