MAJOR-BREAKING: Yankees’ Signs $67 Million Deal With Surprise AL West Contender

New York Yankees pitcher Luis Severino is on the move again, nearly a year after leaving the Bronx for Queens. After playing a key role in helping the New York Mets reach the National League Championship Series in 2024, Severino is set for the biggest payday of his career.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Thursday that Severino and the Oakland Athletics have agreed to a three-year, $67 million deal. This marks the largest guaranteed contract in A’s history, and despite Severino being attached to a qualifying offer, he surpassed market expectations.

MLB Trade Rumors had projected Severino to land a three-year deal worth $51 million this offseason, making the A’s investment in him notably higher.

Passan further revealed that Severino’s contract includes an opt-out clause after the second season. The A’s, who were looking to bolster their pitching staff this winter, secured one of the top free-agent pitchers on the market.

With this new deal, Severino’s career earnings now exceed $130 million. Despite not having a confirmed home stadium for 2025, the A’s seem willing to significantly raise their payroll, even if it means overpaying for available talent.

Severino’s landmark contract could set a precedent, potentially influencing the rest of the starting pitcher market and giving other hurlers an opportunity to negotiate more lucrative deals.
