BREAKING: Major set back As Yankees Cut Ties With $20 Million Longtime Star Infielder

The New York Yankees’ offseason has been quite eventful so far. Although they missed out on acquiring superstar Juan Soto, they’ve made strong moves by adding starting pitcher Max Fried, closer Devin Williams, and outfielder Cody Bellinger.

The team is also expected to target two more infielders. However, despite these additions, it seems unlikely that one of their longtime infielders will return.

Rucker Haringey of FanSided recently predicted that second baseman Gleyber Torres will be traded after the Bellinger acquisition. Torres, projected to sign a $20 million deal according to Spotrac, may ultimately command even more.

Haringey noted, “Gleyber Torres is arguably the team’s most high-profile free agent, but before the Bellinger trade, there was some hope he might return to the Bronx. Now, it’s difficult to see him re-signing with the Yankees because of the substantial contract he is likely to demand.”

There is a slim possibility Torres could return if his market doesn’t develop and he’s willing to accept a short-term, below-market deal.

However, it’s more likely the Yankees will pursue a star third baseman like Alex Bregman to play at third base, with Jazz Chisholm moving to second to replace Torres. If Bregman signs elsewhere, the Yankees may reconsider a reunion with Torres.
