BOOST: Yankees Confirm A Seven-Time All-Star Player To One-Year Contract

The New York Yankees have announced the signing of seven-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove Award winner, and 2022 National League MVP, INF Paul Goldschmidt, to a one-year Major League contract.

Goldschmidt, 37, played 154 games for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2024, batting .245 (147-for-599) with 70 runs, 33 doubles, 1 triple, 22 home runs, 65 RBIs, 47 walks, and 11 stolen bases. In his final 44 games, he posted a .292/.337/.497 line, hitting 16 doubles, 5 home runs, 22 RBIs, and 12 walks. Among MLB first basemen, he ranked third in games played (150) and sixth in fielding percentage (.996, 5 errors in 1,323 total chances). He also batted .295/.366/.473 (43-for-146) against left-handed pitchers.

Over his 14-season Major League career with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2011-2018) and St. Louis Cardinals (2019-2024), Goldschmidt has posted a .289/.381/.510 line, accumulating 1,204 runs, 446 doubles, 23 triples, 362 home runs, 1,187 RBIs, 1,050 walks, and 169 stolen bases across 1,928 games. He has played in the postseason six times, batting .261/.333/.576 with 8 home runs and 16 RBIs in 23 playoff games.

Since his first full season in 2012, Goldschmidt has led MLB in RBIs (1,161), go-ahead RBIs (307), and games played (1,880), while ranking among the top in other categories such as runs scored (1,176), total bases (3,560), and home runs (354). He has played at least 150 games in each of the last nine full seasons (2015-2019, 2021-2024), the most by any player during that span.

A seven-time All-Star, Goldschmidt has reached 20 home runs in 11 seasons, tying Giancarlo Stanton for the most such seasons since 2012.

He has also recorded seven 30-homer seasons, which is the most in the majors over that period. His 362 career home runs are the third-most among active players, behind only Stanton (429) and Mike Trout (378).

Goldschmidt has been especially dominant against left-handed pitchers, hitting .323/.423/.586 with 101 home runs in 1,643 at-bats. Among players with at least 750 career plate appearances against left-handers since 1974, he ranks among the top ten in OPS, on-base percentage, and slugging.

He has also won the National League Hank Aaron Award twice and is a five-time Silver Slugger winner at first base.

Goldschmidt has earned four Gold Glove Awards for his exceptional defense at first base, posting a career .997 fielding percentage, the highest among first basemen with at least 650 games since 2011.

In addition to his MLB accomplishments, Goldschmidt has represented Team USA twice in the World Baseball Classic, winning a Gold Medal in 2017 and a Silver Medal in 2023.

A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Goldschmidt was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the eighth round of the 2009 MLB Draft from Texas State University. He was traded to the Cardinals on December 5, 2018, in exchange for Carson Kelly, Luke Weaver, Andy Young, and a 2019 draft pick.
