The NY Jets may be on the cusp of hiring both a new head coach and general manager. The team has scheduled interviews with Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Washington Commanders assistant GM Lance Newmark, both on the same day.
Glenn and Newmark, who previously collaborated in Detroit, have long been seen as a natural pairing for the Jets’ leadership positions. Now that both are set for second interviews, an official hire could be imminent.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jets could finalize their hires as early as Tuesday if the interviews go smoothly. Although Glenn is scheduled for a second interview with the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday, the fact that he chose to meet with the Jets first is significant.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Glenn is “very interested” in the Jets’ head coaching job, and the feeling appears mutual. While the Saints are still a contender, the Jets currently seem like the frontrunner for Glenn’s services.
Having spent eight years as a Pro Bowl cornerback with the Jets in the ’90s and later serving as a personnel scout for the team, Glenn is well-connected within the organization. Meanwhile, Newmark’s 25+ years with the Lions, where he played a key role in their recent turnaround, has earned him high regard as well.
With no other confirmed candidates for second interviews, the Jets’ hiring process could conclude quickly with Glenn and Newmark as the likely new leadership team.
