After spending one season with the NC State football program, redshirt freshman cornerback Tamarcus Cooley entered the transfer portal on January 2. This week, the 5-foot-11, 205-pound North Carolina native announced his commitment to LSU.
In his lone season at NC State, Cooley, who transferred from Maryland after his redshirt year, totaled 39 tackles, including 2.5 for loss, one sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three interceptions, two quarterback hurries, and six pass breakups while starting all 12 games in the Wolfpack’s secondary.
A three-star transfer prospect, Cooley is ranked No. 237 overall and No. 32 among cornerbacks in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports.
As a recruit out of Rolesville High School in North Carolina, Cooley was ranked No. 988 overall and No. 28 in the state on the 247Sports 2023 Composite.
Cooley is one of 17 players from the 2024 NC State roster to enter the transfer portal, joining three other defensive backs—safeties Bishop Fitzgerald and Devan Boykin, and cornerback Brandon Cisse.
Meanwhile, NC State head coach Dave Doeren and his staff have brought in 10 new transfers, including three strong additions to the secondary: former Missouri cornerback Jaren Sensabaugh, Temple cornerback Jamel Johnson, and Georgia State safety Jeremiah Johnson.
