BOOST: Carolina Hurricanes Pull Off Shocking Trade By Signing this NHL Star — What Does This Mean for the League?

The J.T. Miller trade rumors are heating up, with NHL insider Frank Seravalli providing new insights into the Vancouver Canucks forward’s potential destinations. On Thursday, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman revealed that the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes have been granted permission to speak with Miller without risking tampering.

While this could suggest the Rangers are still the frontrunners—or perhaps the only serious contender for Miller—especially after being close to a deal on Saturday, Seravalli clarified that there are still multiple teams in the mix. “There was an impression that it was only the Rangers for J.T. Miller, but that’s not true,” Seravalli explained. “There are still many teams actively pursuing him.”

Supporting Friedman’s report, Seravalli mentioned the Hurricanes as a strong candidate for a trade involving a “skilled forward,” though he refrained from confirming Miller as their primary target. “Sources indicate that the Hurricanes have been one of the most active teams recently,” Seravalli noted. “They’re looking to add a skilled forward, but it may not necessarily be Miller.”

On the Rangers’ side, Friedman noted that they had an offer on the table involving Filip Chytil, a first-round pick, and a prospect, but no deal was finalized.

This shift in Miller’s trade market comes as the Canucks adjust their approach to trade discussions. According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, Vancouver is now open to considering future-focused returns—such as draft picks and prospects—rather than insisting on immediate roster help for a playoff push.
