REPORT: Pair of Kentucky Wildcats make ESPN 2-round mock draft

The Kentucky Wildcats had a disappointing season overall, but their defense was a bright spot. The team secured several key victories, including a strong win over Ole Miss, often thanks to their defensive prowess.

As a result, Kentucky is expected to have a few players selected in the upcoming NFL Draft in late April. Maxwell Hairston and Deone Walker are two players who are frequently featured in mock drafts.

In ESPN’s Matt Miller’s first two-round mock draft, both players were chosen. Hairston, who has even been projected as a first-round pick in some mock drafts, was selected by the Indianapolis Colts at No. 45. Walker, a defensive lineman, was taken at No. 58 overall by the Houston Texans.

Miller provided some insight on Walker, stating:

“Walker played through a back injury in 2024 that will need to be monitored, but at nearly 6-foot-8 and 350 pounds, he has great pass-rush potential. He had 7.5 sacks in 2023 but only 1.5 this past season.”

Both players dealt with injuries during the season, which could affect their draft stock. However, Hairston’s impressive performance at the Senior Bowl may help boost his ranking. The 6-foot-1 defensive back finished last season with an SEC-best five interceptions, 151 return yards, and two touchdowns.

Walker, on the other hand, had 7.5 sacks in 2023 and has shown the ability to pressure the quarterback. With the need for defensive line help, he could be a strong pick for Houston in the late second round.

The NFL Draft takes place from April 24-26 in Green Bay, so Wildcats fans can look forward to seeing some of their own fulfill their NFL dreams.
