SAD: Yankees Face Heartbreak As Key Pitcher Hospitalized After Unexpected Medical Emergency On First Day Of Spring Training

TAMPA, Fla. — The Yankees were caught off guard on Wednesday during their first spring training session for pitchers and catchers when they found themselves one player short.

Right-handed reliever Eric Reyzelman, a promising young prospect known for his impressive 2024 season, was rushed to a local hospital after leaving Steinbrenner Field prior to the team’s practice due to an allergic reaction.

Reyzelman’s condition was reported as stable.

“He’ll stay overnight for observation, and we expect to have more information on Thursday,” said team spokesperson Jason Zillo.

The Yankees have yet to specify the cause of the allergic reaction.

“There’s still some uncertainty, so we’ll wait for the doctors to provide more details,” Zillo added.

The 23-year-old Reyzelman, who was invited to Yankees spring training as a non-roster player, had an outstanding season in 2024. The 6-foot-2, 188-pound reliever dominated across three levels, relying mainly on his fastball that can reach 99 mph. He posted a 1.16 ERA with five saves and an impressive 63 strikeouts in 38.2 innings across 31 games.

In Double-A, he recorded a 1.93 ERA in 21 appearances for the Somerset Patriots and was perfect in four rookie-level games for the Florida Complex League Yankees and six for the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades, maintaining a 0.00 ERA in both.
