The New York Giants have officially added a former first-round quarterback to their roster, taking a chance on Zach Wilson as they overhaul their quarterback room this offseason. Wilson, the former No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has joined the Giants after spending time with the New York Jets and Denver Broncos.
Wilson’s journey in the NFL has been tumultuous, as he struggled to establish himself as the Jets’ franchise quarterback before being traded to the Broncos last offseason. With Bo Nix emerging as the Broncos’ starter, Wilson found himself in a backup role in Denver. Now, he is seeking a fresh start with the Giants, who view him as a potential backup with the upside to develop into more under the right circumstances.

The Giants’ quarterback situation had been in flux, with only Tommy DeVito under contract as an exclusive rights free agent. In addition to their search for a starting quarterback, the Giants were in need of a reliable backup. Wilson, who has accumulated 6,293 passing yards and a 23-25 touchdown-to-interception ratio over 34 games, was seen as a potential low-risk, high-reward option for the team.
Despite his struggles, many still believe that Wilson has untapped potential. His time with the Jets was marked by poor circumstances, and the Giants hope that head coach Brian Daboll can unlock that potential, much like he did with quarterbacks Tyrod Taylor and DeVito in 2023.
With the Giants securing Wilson, they now have a quarterback with both upside and experience as they work to solidify their roster heading into the new season.
