Chris Klieman has successfully completed his Kansas State football staff, securing a top-experience keyman in Luke Wells as the new tight ends coach, pending a successful background check. With more than 20 years of coaching experience, Wells has worked at several notable programs, including Louisiana-Monroe, Iowa State, Utah State, Texas Tech, and Tulsa, specializing in developing tight ends. His extensive track record in college football makes him a highly valuable addition to the Wildcats’ coaching staff.
Wells is no stranger to Kansas State, as he is the brother of offensive coordinator Matt Wells. The two have previously worked together at Utah State and Texas Tech, bringing a well-established dynamic to the Wildcats. Head coach Chris Klieman expressed his excitement, stating that Luke’s wealth of coaching experience and his recruiting energy will be instrumental in continuing the tight end group’s contribution to the team’s offensive success.
A 2002 graduate of Oklahoma, Wells played for the Sooners before transitioning to a coaching role as a student assistant. His most recent coaching position was at Tulsa, where he honed his expertise. Expressing his gratitude, Wells said, “I am grateful for the opportunity from Coach Klieman to help this staff and be a part of the winning culture at K-State.”

Wells’ hiring fills the void left after the departure of Conor Riley, who moved on to become the offensive line coach for the Dallas Cowboys. In response to these changes, Klieman promoted Matt Wells to offensive coordinator, shifted Brian Lepak to the offensive line coach, and named Drew Liddle as his assistant. This strategic hire completes Klieman’s coaching staff, setting the stage for continued success at Kansas State.
